OVERVIEW

Stressful lifestyles and poor diets often cause a depletion of serotonin levels. 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) has been used for many years to replenish serotonin levels and support a healthy mood and sleep cycle regulation. Supplementation with 5-HTP has been shown to increase serotonin levels in the central nervous system. The essential amino acid, tryptophan is converted into 5-HTP by the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase. Tryptophan hydroxylase can be inhibited by a number of factors including stress, insulin resistance, pyridoxine (vitamin B6) deficiency, and insufficient magnesium levels. Supplementation with 5-HTP bypasses the conversion of tryptophan to 5-HTP and thus supports optimal levels of serotonin. 5-HTP also readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, bypassing competition with other amino acids, making it a more efficient precursor for serotonin production.

5-HTP is an amino acid that plays an important role in the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter known to be associated with the feeling of well-being. The precursor to serotonin, our 5-hydroxytryptophan is extracted naturally from the seed of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia. 5-HTP has been shown to support patients with mild mood changes, occasional restless sleep, and periodic, mild anxiety.
5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the amount of serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation.
Since it has been shown that 5-HTP increases overall levels of serotonin, 5-HTP has been utilized as an ingredient in supplements where serotonin levels are believed to play an important role.

5-HTP Side Effects
The most common side effects of 5-HTP include heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, sexual problems, and muscle problems.

Shipment Timing
Orders placed by 2:00pm EST usually ship the same day, Monday through Friday. Shipments do not go out Saturday or Sunday, and all orders received over the weekend (after 2:00pm EST Friday – Sunday) will not be processed until the following Monday. Orders will not be processed and shipments will not be sent on company holidays. We maintain most product items available in our store inventory.

Occasionally, an item will be out of stock when an order is placed.
